The Esquire Theatre
The Esquire Theatre Corporation
Cincinnati, Ohio, 1996
An abandoned neighborhood movie theater was slated for conversion to a fast food restaurant. Local community members sought to enforce a zoning overlay which limited the percentage of take out food service. A ruling by the Ohio Supreme Court supported the local zoning overlay and greatly strengthened the ability of historic districts to control business types. A non-profit corporation was created and successfully redeveloped the building into a three screen art movie house and later designed an addition containing three more movie theatres, doubling the seating capacity.
Muller Architect's design features a colorful large-scale Victorian pattern made of porcelain-coated metal panels.
